On this week’s episode we talk to Phish head and all-around music fan Beth Winer about traveling to and surviving music festival season. Beth was born and raised on the far north side of Chicago in West Rogers Park and graduated from Chicago Public Schools before going to the University of Wisconsin, Madison. After college, she moved back to Chicago and have been working in association management since 1996. She has also traveled far and wide to enjoy the sweet, sweet jams of her favorite musicians. Find out more about Beth below!
1) Where have you traveled?
Israel (I studied abroad at Tel Aviv University for one semester), Sinai Peninsula, Turkey, Greece, South Africa, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, England, France, Costa Rica, Belize, Mexico, Canada, Hawaii, and numerous cities throughout the U.S.
2) What’s been your favorite trip so far?
Hard to say because each experience was so unique, but South Africa, Costa Rica and Belize rise to the top. I don’t consider Israel a trip, but it was by far the most moving travel experience I’ve had.
3) What are 3 things you always take with you when you travel?
For shows: comfortable shoes, bottle caps, You Are Beautiful stickers. Other travel: Pillowcase, wrap/shawl, two pairs of good walking shoes. For both: An open mind.
4) What’s your next destination?
Philadelphia to see two nights of Phish at The Mann in June.
5) Give us 1 reason why you travel.
For shows: To connect with like minded people and be fully present for the experience that makes me most happy. Other travel: To see the world and its people so as not to live an insulated life.
